Team Selection

Top 5 are our team with 6-10 as alternates if needed.
Next Match Jan 24 3:30-6:15 max. I think you'll be done closer to 5:45 at Friendly Hills.
All games need to be  notated - next week we'll practice doing that.
Bring a snack. Arrange for a ride home at around 5:45 or bring a cell phone and you can call for a ride as soon as you are done.

Who can come - anyone in the top 12 may come. If you are not on the team of 5, you will play a scrimmage game against other extra players from other schools. Scrimmage players may choose to play just one game enabling them to catch the activity bus home.

League Competition

JUNIOR HIGH CHESS LEAGUE
Click on Junior High League in the upper right to get
more information about the league

JAN 8 CLUB MEETING
Today we went over the 2-move checkmate worksheet.
We also learned how to queen a lone pawn against just a king.

Ideas you should understand:
  Safety Zone
  Opposition
  Distant Opposition
  Diagonal opposition

To succeed, you need two of the following:
1) King in front of the pawn
2) You need to step into opposition
3) You need to advance your king to the sixth rank.

Dec 11 Ratings

We have an opportunity to join a league where we'd play five of our players against five from another school. It would be on Fridays in Jan and early February. It looks like the team would be Luke, Shanmuka, Elijah, Graham and Amanuel with Pragnan and Asher as backups in case someone couldn't make it. Or we could field two teams by adding Sam, Bisrat, Zach, and Dhanush. I would get the school to pay the fee, so it would be free for the participants. However, you would have to provide your own transportation to and from the school (which would probably be Friendly Hills, Heritage, or Metcalf. We don't need all 5 parents to drive - two will probably do for one team, 4 for 2 teams. Think about if you would like to participate even if I didn't include your name above. Ask your parents if you can go, and ask them if they would be willing to drive

If we don't join the league, I thought we might take the activity bus over to Heritage and play them.
