Ratings after March 28 with CORRECTION

One more huge team tournament for those of you in grades 5 & 6 April 21-22 at Breck!

We need some of those 5th and 6th graders who used to come to chess club to come back in these last 4 weeks before the big Statewide tournament. Wee need at least 4 players for a team. So thomas, Andrew, and Frank - recruit some others in 5th and 6th grade.

Here's my optimistic best hope for statewide: Thomas 5 wins, Frank, Andrew and Ben Ellison 4 points. That's a total of 21 points. (CORRECTION - I can't add - 17 points!) 17 is in trophy contention - last year 5th place. 10th place was 15.5 and there are 4 regional trophies beyond that. If we finish as high as 5th place the top 4 from that team receive medals also.

In preparation, I will run a chess tournament during chess club with medals and ribbons for top performers beginning right after spring break.

Nationals

This is the last week to register for the High School National CHess Championships in Mpls. before the price start going up. The cost this week is $50 + USCF membership which is about $20. Register on-line at www.uschess.org go to National Events, Find the High School Section and then Register. You're on your own for this one, though I will be there if you let me know you're going.

NEWS FLASH!

The Friendly Hills Middle School Chess Team took home the Top Middle School Chess trophy at the state Middleschool/Jr.High Chess Championship.

Scoring points for the team were 8th grader Sam Pressman, and 6th grader Tom Miranda with 3 points each and 7th graders Alex Pressman and Dan Kies with 2 points, 6th grader Andrew Kies with 2 points and 5th grader Frank Sullivan with 2 points.

Next tournament is March 10 at Metcalf Jr. High in Burnsville - Jr. High Championships!
